You probably heard about ghost update or GU on Express Entry thread. You wonder what the ghost update is.

So, what’s the ghost update?

Simply put, ghost update is referring that your application hasn’t been really updated yet but it’s shown as updated under the current status on IRCC website.

Below is the example of the ghost update.

Once you sign in to IRCC, your current status says that ‘Application/profile updated’.

However, there’s no updates on your application when you check full application status.

No updates on your application

This is called the ghost update.

Normally, this update is known as a good sign about your process. This implies that

  • IRCC has started reviewing your application
  • IRCC has updated some results on your application (but not ready to update on the webpage as there are several categories to check under the background check)

Before you get a CoPR (Confirmation of Permanent Resident), some applicants get several ghost updates but some aren’t getting any. So it’s quite random though if you get some ghost updates, you can assume that your application is being processed by IRCC.

Good luck with your PR!
